Carl has worked in Building Services Consulting Engineering since an apprentice at the age of 16 in 2001, has gained a lot of experience and has seen first-hand how several different companies ranging from small, medium and global scale businesses have approached the challenge to design building services systems for buildings.
Carl has carried out project management, site work and risk management in the nuclear industry where the whole design and installation process is very closely controlled. Carl applies his project management skills to all projects, approaching each challenge individually, logically and efficiently
Carl is accredited by CIBSE as a Full Member and the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer, currently working towards ‘Chartered’status.
Carl has 20 years experience in the building services design industry and has worked for eight different consulting and contracting firms before perusing Octave Design Services Ltd as a trading business.

Alison Pratt Accounts & Business Development Manager
Ali graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 2000 with a BSc Hons in Geology. Whilst deciding what route her career would take Ali started working at Halton and Warrington Youth Offending Team (now known as Youth Justice Services - YJS).
During her time at YJS Ali worked in various roles including administrator, Restorative Justice, family support, managing a case load and court officer. After 17 years of working for the local authority and following the birth of her three children Ali made the decision to leave the Youth Justice Service.
Ali joined Octave Design Services in April 2019 and works part time. She hopes to transfer many of her skills and experience of working within the YJS to her current role. In particular her IT and organisational skills and experience of public speaking and meeting with a range of people from various backgrounds and professional environments.
As well as supporting Carl with the day to day running of the business and finances, Ali will also support business growth and development, marketing, building networks and community engagement.

Alison Pratt Shareholder & Administrator
Ali graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 2000 with a BSc Hons in Geology. Whilst deciding what route her career would take Ali worked in a couple of temping jobs before finding herself at the Halton and Warrington Youth Offending Team (YOT).
Working as an administrator Ali’s role started out answering phones, typing up reports and general office support to the team. In 2002 She was offered a permanent post as a Referral Order administrator and this is where her journey working in Youth Justice began. Through training and experience working within the team she went from her first post, to Restorative Justice Officer to YOT Support worker. Skills gained include IT, writing reports, delivering training to volunteers, chairing meetings, dealing with the public, attending prisons, police custody, court, creating and delivering support plans for young people and their families, victim support, community reparation projects, mental health and substance use awareness.

Outside of work Ali keeps herself busy with family life along with Carl raising their three children Charlie (age 4) and twins Lizzy and Rosie (age 3). She enjoys cooking, baking, and gardening and when possible rocking out with Carl at live gigs.
Matt Redmond CAD Technician Matt has predominately worked in the building services sector, producing drawings for a wide variety of projects, such as hospitals, schools, retail and residential designs. Matt also has a range of experience in other engineering disciplines, including progressing to the level of assistant highway engineer, completing the design of various section 278/38 schemes.
In addition to AutoCAD, Matt has experience in the use of Revit, applying the knowledge he gained from completing a beginners Revit course, which focused on the mechanical, electrical and plumbing aspects of BIM.
Matt is also a competent user of Microsoft Office having gained a level 2 E.C.D.L qualification.
