Octave Design Services Ltd. was launched as a business in June 2018 following a traumatic 6 months for Carl and his family in October 2017 to March 2018.
In October 2017 their little boy Charlie who was 9 months old was admitted to hospital in heart failure.
Over the next 4 days the team at Alder Hey were able to stabilise Charlie. On day 5 Charlie was transferred to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle where he was placed on the urgent heart transplant list.
The family spent nearly 6 months in Newcastle during which time their twin girls Lizzy and Rosie were born and Charlie received his life saving heart transplant.
Twin girls, Lizzy and Rosie, were born in January 2018 on the same day as Charlie’s First Birthday.
A month later Charlie underwent a successful heart transplant and made a remarkable recovery. In March 2018 they all returned to Runcorn as a family of five.
Once back in Runcorn thoughts turned back to work. Carl considered a return to contract work, but as so much had changed and to allow the flexibility of staying close to his young family, Carl decided to take self-employment to the next level by launching Octave Design Services as an engineering consultancy in its own right. In June 2018 Octave Design Services moved into their current office at the Heath Business and Technical Park, Runcorn.
In 2019 Octave were awarded New Business of the Year at the Halton Business Awards. This was a very proud moment and testament to everyone's hard work. When the pandemic hit, home working and a slow but steady influx of work ensured the business survived.
To date Octave have worked with over 80 clients on over 200 projects and in 2024 won a second time at the Halton Business Awards.
