Christmas Presents for CHUF and Ward 23
Carl & Charlie were back at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle for Charlies 12 weekly heart clinic. As part of our commitment to our five-charity mission, We delivered Christmas presents for the children on ward 23 and PICU where we spent 5 months with Charlie on the urgent heart transplant list.
Charlie aged 2 (the future boss at Octave) said “we are giving presents to the poorly children in the hospital in Newcastle”
CHUF’s mission is to make life better for children and young people who are born with or develop heart conditions by providing lifelong support to them and their families.
This is achieved by supporting the children and families who receive treatment by the Children’s Heart Unit staff based at Freeman Hospital and raising vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. CHUF’s charitable activities however go far beyond that of providing medical equipment and personnel. Very much linked to its vision statement, the Charity provides holistic care to the children by providing services and facilities that allow heart children to develop their skills and mature as any healthy child normally would. Two recent projects that demonstrate some of CHUFs charitable activities include a home from home for parents and families called Scott House (worth £1.6 million), named after the Scott family who founded CHUF, and extensive play facilities (worth £300,000).
CHUF’s mission is achieved by supporting the Children’s Heart Unit at Freeman Hospital and their patients by raising vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. The Heart Unit treats over four thousand patients each year from all over the UK. It is one of only two children’s heart transplant units and is the only unit capable of providing all the services that might be necessary, from diagnosis to closing holes in the heart or heart transplantation – regardless of whether it is an unborn baby, a child or an adult who was born with heart disease.
