Allerton Police and Fire Station, Liverpool

Octave were appointed to provide the full detailed design, tender and construction support for the iconic Allerton Road police station and fire station refurbishment into 42 x apartments and 7 x town houses.
The building’s main claim to fame of the fire station is that the ‘fireman with the hourglass…who rushes in..’ in the Beatles song Penny Lane supposedly came from this station (although it’s about half a mile away from Penny Lane).

The fireman and fire engine referred to in the lyrics were based on memories of the fire station at Mather Avenue (ref: Paul McCartney, Many Years From Now biography by Barry Miles).

This scheme features a highly efficient centralised boiler plant and heat interface unit network, as well as heat recovery ventilation systems.
