Carl completes the Southport Half Marathon in 1:51:22
Carl completed the Southport Half Marathon today, no mean feat considering how little he has prepared for the Tour of Merseyside this year, and putting on a few lockdown pounds certainly wont have helped! Now that running events are starting to happen again, we thought this would be a good opportunity to raise awareness about our 5 Charities that have helped us along the way, and hopefully fundraise for these much needed causes.

Each day this week we are going to post about one of our chosen charities. Today is CHUF

CHUF support pioneering services that will positively impact heart families, inspire hope and enable Heart Heroes to reach their full potential. This is achieved by supporting the children and families who receive treatment by the Children’s Heart Unit based at Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North East of England. They raise vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. CHUF’s charitable activities go far beyond that of providing medical equipment and personnel; the charity provides holistic care to children and their families by providing services and facilities that allow heart children to develop their skills and mature as any healthy child normally would. CHUF supports pioneering research and services that contributes to heart heroes’ ability to achieve their full potential.

Because of our own little "Heart Hero" Charlie, who spent 5 months at the Freeman Hospital, we are eternally grateful for the help and support they gave us.

Dr Hugh Bain, one of CHUF's Founders and a Doctor at the Freeman hospital passed away recently. He was one of the Dr doctors involved in the first ever heart transplant on a baby in 1987. Read a tribute to Dr Bain here
